Master

The Master

Basic Info

Summary (brief)

A deeply psychological, fictional portrait of the American author Henry James during late 19th century; covers 1895-1899; begins with James' devastating and humiliating failure in London theater with his play Guy Domville; Reeling from public rejection, James retreats to a solitary life at Lamb House in Rye, England, where he begins drafting his final great masterpieces. Ironic because James was a master of understanding human psych in fiction, but remained completely blind to his own heart, sacrificing love, family, and intimacy for the absolute solitude required by his art; he's so real for that. I remember the gay part where he is cuddling naked in bed with a dude and neither of them make a move. This guy really hated Oscar Wilde.
