Summary (brief)

-Lockwood rents a manor house called Thrushcross Grange in England. His landlord is Heathcliff, who lives in Wuthering Heights four miles away from the Grange. Lockwood asks the housekeeper, Nelly Dean, to tell him the story of Heathcliff and the strange denizens of Wuthering Heights. She worked as a servant in the heights since she was a young girl, for the then-owner Mr. Earnshaw and his fam. Mr. E goes to liverpool and returns with an orphan he will raise with his children. The other children - Hindley and Catherine, detest Heathcliff. Until Cathy loves him. They are inseparable. After Mrs. E dies, Mr. E grows to prefer Heathcliff to his own son. He sends Hindley to college. Mr. E dies, and Hindley inherits WH. He returns with his wife, Frances, and seeks revenge on HC by treating him as a laborer. They go to Thrushcross Grange to tease Edgar and Isabella Linton who live there. Cathy is bitten by a dog and is forced to stay at the Grange to recoup for 5 weeks. Mrs. Linton tries to make her a proper young lady. She becomes infatuated with Edgar. Frances dies after giving birth to a boy, Hareton. Hindley becomes an alcoholic maniac. Cathy becomes engaged to Edgar Linton. HC leaves WH and stays away for 3 years, returning after Cathy and Edgars marriage. HC wants revenge on everyone. He lends money to Hindley so he keeps drinking himself to death. Heathcliff then inherits the manor. He marries Isabella Linton so he can also inherit the grange. Cathy becomes ill, gives birth to a daughter, and dies. Isabella has Heathcliff's son. Nelly serves as Catherine II nursemaid at the grange. Isabella dies. Linton comes to live with Heathcliff, and Heathcliff treats him even more cruelly than he treated Isabella. Cathy meets Heathcliff on the moors and makes a visit to WH to meet Linton. They begin a secret romance. Nelly destroys the letters. Linton is pursuing Cathy because HC is forcing him to. HC hopes Cathy marries Linton, and his legal claim upon the Grange and his revenge upon Linton will be complete. They do marry. Edgar dies and then Linton. He forces Cathy to be his servant. Lockwood rents Thrushcross Grange. Cathy and Hareton become a thing. HC dies.
